About me

I grew up on a sheep farm just outside of Brandvlei, South Africa and have lived in The Netherlands and the United Kingdom for a year and two years respectively. In 2002 I acquired my B.Accounting degree at Stellenbosch University and in 2007 I moved to Wellington, South Africa, for work in the accounting field.

I am a self-taught watercolour artist since 2021 when I realised that my career path at the time was extremely unfulfilling. I saw an ad for an online watercolour course on painting birds and decided to give it a try, as I’ve never painted before, besides in kindergarden. I was very surprised when I did my first drawing and painting to find that it comes very naturally and effortlessly.

I generally take my models from the animal world – from game reserves, farms, gardens, national parks and the countryside. The subjects’ eyes tend to be the focus of the painting and I enjoy bringing movement into the piece through an expressive background.

Watercolour is my medium of choice. I just love the way that the paint moves, have a mind of its own and the wonderful subtle textures and patterns it creates, which makes it so exciting to work with.

I currently work from my studio in Wellington, South Africa, where I am based.
